High Cadence

For the last few days I have really focussed on getting my normal riding cadence higher. When I still did road cycling I use to ride at between 90 and 95 pedal strokes per minute. After I switched to mountain bike cycling my cadence has declined to 80 to 85. The difference sounds small but the increased strain on my knees was very big.  Now I'm focussing on doing 90 to 95 again and I can feel the difference already. My recovery seems to be much faster. My legs hurt

less. The first few rides at high cadence was much slower than my usual rides. I wasn't to bothered by that because it was just training, but today I managed a ride back from work at very high cadence and in a time I would usually expect to ride while really grinding much bigger gears at a much higher cost to my body which takes much longer to recover from.

I did two 42km rides today. Both felt slow, but the afternoon ride was actually quite fast.

It's getting uncomfortably cold in the mornings now. Winter is just around the corner.
